This is a dedicated group of ladies who get together every first and third Wednesday of the month, beginning at 9:30 AM for about three hours, now meeting in the Rectory Large Meeting Room.
When this group started just after WWII, we sewed Cancer Bandages for the American Red Cross. As that need decreased, we moved on ... and now we do simple hand sewing, particularly hemming Receiving Blankets, which are part of layettes for the Christ Child Society of Cleveland. The Christ Child Society in turn gives these soft and practical blankets to new mothers most in need in and around Cleveland.
Most recently, we have added a knitting component to our Sewing Group./ A parishioner volunteer is kindly teaching some group members to knit Prayer Shawls, which we give to those who are ill in our parish. The parish provides the supplies and we do the work!
As we sew, we visit and chat. We bring our lunches, take turns bringing baked goods for dessert, and we have a delightful time together. We hold occasional small fund raisers within our group and donate some of the proceeds to the parish.
If you can thread a needle, sew a simple straight stitch, or knit, and you enjoy good friendly visiting, please consider joining us. If you cannot sew or knit and want to learn, we will teach you. And if you cannot sew or knit and DON'T want to learn, just come and have a good time. You will be most welcome.
