One year ago - for the first time in Ohio - Mass was celebrated in the Igbo Language. Igbo is a tribal language spoken mainly in Nigeria. Since that first Mass in December, 2010 Mass has been celebrated monthly at Our Lady of Peace.
The Igbo Catholic Community is observing the anniversary with two days of observances. On Saturday, December 10, they will gather at St. Andrew Zvorad Abbey for a day of retreat.
On Sunday, December 11, the anniversary will be marked with a Solemn Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church at 1:00 PM. The celebrants include Fr. Benson Okpara from Canton, OH, Fr. Maurice Emelu, and Fr. Augustine Okwuzu, from Our Lady of Peace.
Following the Mass there will be a reception in Cummins Hall.
The Mass will be celebrated in English with some Igbo Music so that all will be able to participate!
